The loss of oil and natural gas was a severe blow to Saudi Arabia, causing it to splint into the Old and New Kingdoms. However, the country has recovered remarkably well, by pooling together with their neighbouring states and forming a new government. With such wonders like ancient Mesopotamia at their feet, the Old Kingdom of Arabia continues to flourish, and while it may never regain the height of power it held during the age of fossil fuels, it is still a formidable economy in the new climate. Some of the old refineries can be visited, but many are off-limits due to the toxic waste.
The Old Kingdom is a splendid place to visit. It would be a tremendous shame if one missed out on a desert safari on camel-back- truly one of the best experiences available .
