Madikeri is a quaint little rural town in India's southern province. Right in the midst of the Western Ghat mountain range, it has some of the most breath-taking scenery in the world. The Kaveri river cuts through the hills, swamps and forests, and is pleasant to hike alongside. Mountaineers and hill-walkers alike flock to Madikeri for the challenges it holds, and its friendly populace and charm never cease to capture their hearts. Be warned, though- the forests are famed for their insects and parasites, particularly leeches, so it's not one for the squeamish! Old traditions continue to flourish in these secluded hills, and so if you go at the right time of year you can catch some spectacular festivals.
Though a little expensive, Madikeri is worth every penny spent. You'll never forget your experiences here.
